40 Days of Prayer.... Day 28

Read

And said to him, “Go out from your land and from your kindred and go into the land that I show you.” (Acts 7:3)

Think 

In Acts 7, Stephen is retelling Israel’s story when God commanded Abraham “to go.” He was obedient to what God had called him to do. Because of this faithful obedience we now have the opportunity to be a part of this story. What is God calling me to do? Where is he calling me to go? Where in my life can I respond with obedience?

Pray

God, please remind me of your promises in moments when I find it difficult to be faithful, to trust you, or to obey.

Read

But they could not stand up against the wisdom the Spirit gave him as he spoke. (Acts 6:10)

Think 

Am I being intentional in gaining the wisdom of Christ? What things in my life are hindering or distracting me from gaining more wisdom?

Pray

 Lord, help me to seek your wisdom every day. You are faithful to give wisdom to all who ask. Help me to put you above all things in my life. Put a deeper desire in my heart to read your word and to gain a deeper knowledge of you. Forgive me for putting anything else above you.

Then someone came and said, “Look! The men you put in jail are standing in the temple courts teaching the people.” (Acts 5:25)

               

Think 

 Is there something that Christ has called me to that fear is getting in the way of? I am sure the apostles knew the consequences of their actions and had some fears in the midst of their obedience. Just like them, we must choose to obey Christ rather than our own fears or insecurities.

   

Pray

Lord, you know all my fears and insecurities. Please give me the courage to move forward with all you have called me to be. When I am afraid, help me put my trust in you. Give me the boldness of Peter and the apostles to stay on mission, even when life is incredibly hard.

40 Days of Prayer... Day 25

   

Read

When they saw the courage of Peter and John and realized that they were unschooled, ordinary men, they were astonished and they took note that these men had been with Jesus. (Acts 4:13)

               

Think 

Often times we believe that we need to have certain gifts or abilities in order to be used by God. However, what set Peter and John apart was not their giftedness, but that they had been with Jesus. It’s never what we do or bring to the table – it’s always Jesus at work within us.

   

Pray

Lord, help me to remember that in you I have all I need to accomplish what you have called me to. Forgive me when I desire gifts and abilities of others. With you, all that I have is enough.

Read

Repent then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord. (Acts 3:19)

               

Think 

Repentance is turning away from sin, towards God. Much of our prayer time can be spent asking for countless things other than forgiveness. Take some time to confess your sins to Jesus and ask for his forgiveness.

   

Pray

Lord, thank you for forgiving my sins. Thank you for your unconditional love for me. Remind me that you are full of grace and truth and are faithful in forgiving my sins

Read

The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off-for all whom the Lord our God will call. (Acts 2:39)

   

Think 

The forgiveness of sins through Jesus is for everyone – what an incredible gift! There are people you know that have yet to experience the love and forgiveness of Christ. With Easter fast approaching, make a list of the people that you will invite to attend a church service with you. Commit to pray for these individuals over the coming weeks.

   

Pray

Lord, help me to always be intentional with every moment I have with those who don’t yet know you. Give me courage to invite people to church with me. Break down barriers that keep people from knowing you. Thank you for using my life.

40 Days of Prayer... Day 22

Read

He said to them: “It’s not for you to know the times or dates the Father has set by his own authority. But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” (Acts 1:7-8)

               

Think 

Jesus told his disciples not to be concerned about when He would return, but to be on mission with what they were called to do. His promise to all of us is that we would never be alone in anything He asks of us. Rather, His Holy Spirit would be the power that worked in and through us. What is Christ calling you to do that requires you to trust in his strength and power?

   

Pray

Lord, help me to remember that nothing you’ve asked me to do in this life is done without your help and power. Thank you for your Holy Spirit that is always working in and through me. Help me to stay focused on what you’ve called me to do and to not be consumed with things that don’t deserve my attention.
