Dominican Republic Update

We played today back at "La Normal" One of the oldest baseball stadiums in the DR. We played a team from Puerto Rico and won 11-2. Patrick pitched the first inning, he faced 5 batters and had 1 strikeout. We then went on a tear in our bottom half of the inning and scored 9 runs. Coach asked Patrick..."if I pull you now with our lead...will you pitch next game?"  Patrick promptly answered... "absolutely coach"  so he put him out in right field, the relief pitcher did well the rest of the game and we secured the win.

Patrick started the second game against Papai, this is the team that beat us in our first game on Tuesday. This time our defense was outstanding and Patrick was on fire. Problem is so were they. We went all the way to the 6th inning tied 0-0. With 2 outs in the bottom of the 6th Papai managed to score 2 runs. In our half of the 7th we had bases loaded and no outs, but did not manage to score. We lost the second game 2-0. Nonetheless, that was the most awesome game of the trip, Patrick dominated, and when the ball did get in play our kids made some amazing plays! Props and congrats go out to these guys who played their hearts out today and left everything they could give out on the field, you did your parents and your hometowns proud!

The atmosphere at the stadium today was absolutely awesome, the Spanish music playing, the crowds chanting, the announcer doing play by play and funny commentary, and the top notch baseball played by all the teams made for a fantastic day. Holy Cow! I love baseball! Here today it was played at its purest. Just for FUN! While the field was scraggly, the pitching mound was a mess, and the outfield was full of potholes, they all persevered and didn't let the field conditions get in the way. They just had fun, played hard, did high fives and took tons of pictures afterwards.

I am so proud of the confident baseball Patrick played this week. He did his team, himself and his hometown honor and represented Nehawka,Nebraska well with hustle and hard play. All of the teams will remember #73!
